Experience
I graduated from Dowling College in Oakdale, New York, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Science in Secondary Education. While I was attending the college there, I helped to tutor students who had academic challenges. I volunteer as well to help adults at Suffolk Literacy in Long Island. I help them learn, or improve, their English and reading skills. As a tutor, I have found that learning is best when it is fun and made to be engaging. It is my opinion that children learn better if they can experience things for themselves. The teacher should be there to guide and encourage the student, not to just show them how it is done. My passion lies in helping readers who are struggling, because not only is reading important to getting passing grades in school, it's important for having a successful life as well. I believe very strongly in every child and young adult receiving an education and it is one of the most important messages adults can pass on to future generations. When I'm not tutoring, I enjoy curling up with a good book, watching birds, running, and watching the old classic movies.
